Beschreibung
Der Hellrote Ara ist bekannt für sein prächtiges Gefieder, das in kräftigen Farben leuchtet. Es sieht nicht nur wunderschön aus, es ist auch sehr auffällig. In seiner Heimat, dem Regenwald, verschmilzt er aber gerade dadurch optisch mit den grünen Blättern und bunten Früchten. Zu seiner Leibspeise zählen neben Früchten auch Paranüsse, deren harte Schale er mühelos mit seinem Schnabel aufbricht. Oft kann man Hellrote Aras auch dabei beobachten, wie sie an Flussufern an Lehm lecken. Der Lehm macht Giftstoffe in unreifen Früchten unschädlich und ist für die Aras wie ein Hausmittel gegen Bauchschmerzen.
